It was a great honor for the UBS Center to present Prof. Kenneth Rogoff, Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University. The public lecture took place on June 23, 2015, at the University of Zurich.
In his lecture Prof. Kenneth Rogoff explored options on how to reduce public debt in the long run. He compared debt-reduction approaches chosen in the past with potential options for the future.
Rogoff’s recent academic book "This Time is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly" (joint with Carmen Reinhart) shows the remarkable quantitative similarities across time and countries in both the run-up to, and the aftermath of, severe financial crises. His treatise Foundations of International Macroeconomics (joint with Maurice Obstfeld) is the standard graduate text in the field worldwide, and his monthly syndicated column on global economic issues is published regularly in over 50 countries.
